My Dear Patroclus

As the battle raged on not too far away in the camps, Patroclus came to me in my tent begging for my return to the fight. He insisted that if I did not rejoin the fight, then he would wear my armor in my place. I still couldn't fight because of that oaf Agamemnon disgracing me. I hesitantly agreed to Patroclus wearing my armor and fighting in my stead. However I told him to only drive the Trojans out of our camp, and to not pursue them. In fact if he did fight in my place he would be giving me more time by fighting as me. I can only hope that he does return safely and that Zeus misinterpreted Patroclus's fate, or I swear their will be hell to pay. As soon as Patroclus entered the battle as me, the tide rapidly turned in the Greeks favor. Patroclus and my Myrmidons were killing countless Trojans. The battle soon looked by a joke with all of the Trojans retreating, even the mighty Hector was seen fleeing from the battle field. Among the countless men that Patroclus killed was Sarpedon, the son of Zeus, and because of this act, Patroclus's fate was sealed. Patroclus ended up saving the camp from the Trojans, but he decided to disobey my order and pursue the Trojans all the way to the gates of Troy. Soon Patroclus came across Hector, and also the Crafty Apollo. At one point point Patroclus kills Hector's driver Cebriones, and then Apollo comes from behind and smacks patroclus......sniff sniff, then a Trojan named Euphorbus wounds Patroclus, and then HECTOR finally killed my beloved Patrolcus. :'( However Patroclus did acknowledge Hector's own death was to come soon, by my hands. After my dear friends death, Menelaus went to guard his body, Euphorbus tried to take the body away but Meneaud didn't allow it and killed him. The fool. Menelaus tries to strip Patroclus of my armor, but Hector had other plans and somehow took my armor!!!!! Soon the mighty Ajax came to Menelaus and both charged at Hector. Because of this Hector flees yet again. What a wuss. Glaucus then begins to insult Hector for his retreating, and then Hector calls on the Trojan lines to march on toward Patroclus' body, except this time, he was wearing my armor >:(. The battle for Patroclus' body rages on for quite some time until Zeus sends my horse and Automedon to pick up Patroclus' body and return it to my camp. He soon rushes towards my camp with both Hector and Aeneas in pursuit. Soon Zeus interferes again. This times pushing the Greeks back. Soon Idomeneus wounds Hector and yet again, that fool of a prince retreats. Soon, Ajax sends Antilochus to my tent to inform me of the bad news. :"( Soon, Antilochus came to my tent, and gave me the bad news. I had nothing left to live for, all I wanted was to die and to be with Patroclus. My mother tried to comfort me, but it didn't work that well. She did however say that my death would come soon after Hectors. Apparently, my mother was going to let me rush to my death, but first she had to get me new weapons. While all of this was happening the Trojans were attacking the Greeks. Three times they attacked, and three times they were repelled. I was soon told by Iris to go out to the lines and inspire the troops. I shouted three times and cause those pathetic Trojans to fall back all the way to their city walls. As night fell, I began to clean Patroclus's body and all night the funeral dirge was raised. Meanwhile, during all of this, My mother visited Hephaestus, and he ended up making me a brand new set of armor. I'm rather curious to see it, but I can't think about that while still mourning for Patroclus. :(

This was without a doubt, the hardest moment for me in any of these books, if I knew well ahead of time, I wouldn't have let Patroclus fight and he would still be alive. I guess in some way this is rather ironic. I begged Zeus to punish the Greeks by helping the Trojans, and in the end my beloved friend is now dead. If anything were to bring me back into the fight it is definitely going to be this. Another aspect I couldn't help but notice was the fact that Hector is constantly retreating. What's up with that? He is suppose to be the best fighter of the Trojans and he is retreating. To me he seems to be resembling Paris. And that oaf can't even say that he alone killed my beloved companion. Both Apollo and a no body attacked him before he could get the finishing blow onto him. While looking back, it dawned on me that Book 18 was the first time night has fallen in a long time in our story. It's crazy how time slows down. However this did give me time to think about returning to the battle. I NEED to get my revenge on HECTOR. I could see full well that my return, definitely rallied my fellow Greeks into fighting. I mean do they expect me to do all the killing my self. Lets be real here. How can I end this with out mentioning my new armor that my mommy got me from Hephaestus. The shield was so amazing with all of the pictures displayed on it. I'd like to see any Trojan try and defeat me with this glorious armor of mine.

Patroclus prepared to get sent to the Underworld.
